Bonne Terre Man Accused of Child Sex Crime Released After Posting $100,000 Bond

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Mo. — A Bonne Terre man facing a felony charge involving an alleged sexual assault of a child has been released from custody after posting a $100,000 bond.

Kevin Wayne Schutte was charged with first-degree sodomy involving a victim younger than 12 following an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a probable cause statement, the alleged incident occurred on Christmas Day in 2016. The victim later reported the allegations to authorities, leading to the criminal investigation and subsequent charge.

Schutte was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on October 7, 2026. His bond was set at $100,000 surety.

Court information indicates that a bail bondsman subsequently posted the required bond, allowing Schutte to be released from jail while his case proceeds through the court system.

Schutte is scheduled to appear in Washington County court on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 9 a.m.

Authorities have also encouraged anyone with additional information related to the investigation to contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 573-438-7670.

The charge remains an allegation, and Schutte is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
