Jason Smith Wins Re-Election to Congress in Missouri’s 8th District

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI — Republican Congressman Jason Smith has secured another term representing Missouri’s 8th Congressional District following a decisive victory in the November 3, 2026, general election.

Smith defeated Democratic challenger Chris Reichard and Libertarian candidate Rebecca Sharpe Lombard, receiving more than two-thirds of the votes cast in the congressional race.

Election Results

According to unofficial results reported by the Missouri Secretary of State, all 385 precincts in the district had reported the following totals:

Smith finished with an advantage of 86,926 votes over Reichard.

Continuing His Service in Congress

Smith has represented Missouri’s 8th Congressional District since 2013, when he first won a special election following the resignation of former Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson.

The district encompasses much of Southeast Missouri, including communities throughout St. Francois, Washington, Madison, Ste. Genevieve, Perry, and portions of Jefferson County.

His re-election means he will continue representing the region in Washington, D.C., during the next two-year congressional term beginning in January 2027.

Smith also serves as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees federal tax policy and several major government programs.

Strong Republican Support in Southeast Missouri

The election results reflect continued Republican support across Missouri’s 8th Congressional District, which has remained under Republican representation for decades.

While Reichard and Lombard challenged the incumbent, Smith maintained a substantial lead across the district and secured approximately 67.7% of the overall vote.

The results remain unofficial until formally certified by Missouri election authorities.
